George, left, at the feed lot.

George was very timid and was very scared as we were trying to catch him and take him off the feed lot.
George is a stocky eight-year-old pony who was sent to auction during a herd reduction, or elimination, from a farm where he had been neglected. He was bought at auction by a kill-buyer, who intended to sell him for meat. His price would be determined by his weight.
The PNEPS Equine Rescue Team (ERT) was dispatched to save George. Upon arrival, they found that George had not been handled in a very long time. He was scared and did not trust humans. Due to neglect, he had mats and snarls in his mane, and his feet were overgrown and cracking.
Because George was so timid and scared, our ERT had to catch George in order to remove him from the feed lot. Thankfully, we were able to finally load him into the trailer. George was nervous throughout his journey to his new foster home and whinnied along the way.
George was safely transported to a foster farm in Olympia, where is currently. There a volunteer ferrier spent a great deal of time carefully handling George and his hooves. Now that his hooves have been trimmed and are regularly maintained, we can begin to socialize George for his eventual adoption. His socialization training will begin this summer. .

Volunteers and the ferrier work together to conduct hoof trimming.

George's auction tag is removed!
